Immediately after, they began sucker punching *anything* 'Bush' (out of political fears, their power vs national interest). Never treat liberals like adults. cincimedes ::: Favorites egg - i should also say, that party lines were indeed trumped by 9/11. even al gore gave bush his support. but support for ones country, sometimes requires opposition to those in power who do poorly. and that time has come. in a democracy, the leadership must answer for themselves. this isnt a partisan thing. im an independent, my dad is a republican. its about competent ethical leadership. bush is deficient in all these things. have a good weekend, and dont work too hard:) 07-09-01 12:09:00 __________________________________________________

cincimedes ::: Favorites egg - counter insurgency and bombing failed to deal with the strategic problem of n vietnam. bombing was designed to break the will of our advisary but this was waisted because it was willpower that they had most in abundance. their willpower would have done them little good though, if we had strategically impaired their ability to infiltrate the south. ultimately the VC were not the downfall of the RVN. the RVN were conquered by conventional means. i recommend the book "on strategy". 07-09-01 12:03:37 __________________________________________________
cincimedes ::: Favorites egg - our goal, theoretically was a stable and free RVN. to achieve this would have required us to blunt the enemy strategically not tactically. this would have meant isolating s vietnam to prevent supplies and VC coming in. it would have been hard, and would have required the possible occupation of laos and cambodia but it could have been done. we instead focused exclusively of counter insurgency and bombing. 07-09-01 11:59:30 __________________________________________________
cincimedes ::: Favorites egg - in vietnam, the center of gravity was north vietnam. but the political leadership decided that it was the VC. the VC were a nothing more than a tool in n. vietnams grand strategy of reunification. destroying that tool is not a successfully strategy because it does not ultimately lead to a successful outcome. for that you have to counter the cause, not the symptom. 07-09-01 11:56:13 __________________________________________________
