Nostalgia vintage train New York City Subways subwaysleuth IND trains public transportation historic travel
Description: New York City Transit (MTA) ran a vintage train along what is now the V line (always an odd line), in this part 2, from Queens Plaza to Second Avenue. Sundays, after Thanksgiving to Dec. 30th. I hope they are inspired to replace little things like enameled signs, and a certain gentility. You could see the joy and pride in the conductors and motormen and women. Of course, we are addicted to air-conditioning and used to gadgets that break down in 10 years. 1930 was a good year for subway carriage construction, and Great Public Works for all people still mattered. Look at old movies, at how interesting the subways once looked. And let us rebuild the original Penn. Station, already! We still have the plans! (and leave the post office alone) New York (all Boros) were really captivating, and they can be again. -subwaysleuth |
