Description: As you may or may not know, more than 99.9% of all youtube videos are mono (even if your original file was stereo). Obviously, youtube does this to save bandwidth (understandable). The stereo audio for this video was recorded from the stereo line-out on my digital piano. Creating a stereo youtube post is a little challenging - and took a little research and experimentation. First, you have to upload a stereo flash file ("flv" extension), which is what youtube uses in it's final output. I created mine using the Riva flv encoder (free), but there are other programs that will do this as well. But this process gets a little more complex. The other secret is making the video quality settings LESS than what youtube uses for its videos. If the youtube's conversion software thinks it doesn't have to compress your flash file anymore, then it will tend to leave the stereo audio alone. The settings I used in Riva for this particular video were: Video size 240x180 Framerate 15pfs Bitrate 160kbs Audio at 160kbs Stereo (checked) Sampling rate 44100 Final file size 3.8meg But there's a gotcha. You can use these same settings on a LONGER video, and it will still turn into mono. Seems that the final file SIZE matters as well. As a general rule of thumb, the LONGER your video, the LESS the video quality settings have to be in YOUR flash file before youtube leaves the stereo intact. So, you will have better luck getting stereo with SHORTER videos. Since youtube doesn't make any of this public, this will take some experimenting on your part. Unfortunately, this process is part science, part guessing. Good luck. You will notice that this video is a little choppy/grainy at 15 frames per second, which is the sacrifice in making the audio sound good.
